A summary of our approach to corporate responsibility appears below. For more detailed information, please see the dedicated corporate responsiblity website at www.herbertsmith.com/corporateresponsibility.
Our approach to corporate responsibility (CR) is shaped by our values. It reflects the nature of our business, the people who work here, the needs of our local and wider communities, and our desire to:
- ensure that people who cannot afford legal advice have access to justice
- encourage a culture of community involvement and engagement
- minimise our environmental impact
Surveys have indicated that our staff value our commitment to corporate responsibility. We also believe it enhances our awareness of the wider ethical, environmental and economic climate in which we operate.
Our commitment is underpinned by the belief that everyone has a right to be treated with dignity and respect, to equality of opportunity and justice, and that we should actively contribute towards creating a more inclusive society where people, from all backgrounds and viewpoints, can fulfil their potential.
To help maintain and evolve our commitment to corporate responsibility we employ a dedicated team to oversee and manage our programme. The firm is a member of Corporate Responsibility Group, Chatham House, the London Benchmarking Group, Advocates for International Development and Arts & Business. We also provide support to a wide range of legal and educational charities.
