International opportunities

Most of our work has an international dimension, driven by the capability we now have across Asia, Europe and the Middle East and the firm’s strong reputation in sectors particularly exposed to globalisation, including accounting, energy and financial institutions sectors.

Our European and Asian operations share a number of the firm’s global clients in these and other industries, and frequently work together to advise them on multi-jurisdictional matters and regulatory issues.

All of which means international travel, whether to meet clients, colleagues or partner law firms, is part and parcel of a lawyer’s life at Herbert Smith. We strongly encourage our lawyers to use travel as an opportunity to improve their understanding of the political, economic and cultural differences that come into play in cross-border work.

As such, we offer our trainees the opportunity to spend at least one of their four six-month seats in one of our international offices.
