We are therefore totally committed to growing our practice in China and would be delighted to hear from talented and ambitious Chinese lawyers who wish to become part of our success story and our future".
David Gold, Senior Partner
Herbert Smith is one of the leading international law firms in China, with offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Our China practice includes lawyers of a variety of nationalities, including those who did their first legal training/education in a variety of non-Chinese jurisdictions (e.g. England, Hong Kong, USA, Singapore, Australia, France) as well as those who did their first legal education/training in mainland China. We aim to have a diverse team with equal career progression opportunities for all.
Herbert Smith’s Beijing office opened in 1999 and represents Chinese and foreign corporations and financial institutions in corporate reorganisations, overseas listings and financings and both on and off-shore M&A.
In 2003 the Shanghai office opened. It now advises Chinese and foreign companies on China-related investment, projects and commercial transactions.
The firm's transactional practices in Shanghai and Beijing are already strongly established, with market leading reputations for capital markets, corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, finance and banking, and infrastructure and project finance. The firm's internationally renowned international dispute resolution practice also opened a presence in mainland China in 2006.
Herbert Smith’s Hong Kong office is the headquarters of the firm in Asia and the firm’s largest single presence outside the UK. Our corporate department in Hong Kong includes specialists in equity capital markets and M&A, energy and finance, as well as a US securities team that provides advice across the region. The energy and projects team advises investors in energy and infrastructure projects across Asia. The office also handles some of the largest and most important disputes in the region.
