South and South East Asia region

We have a long track record in South and South East Asia and understand its legal, political, commercial, regulatory and cultural landscape. The lawyers in our offices in Bangkok, Singapore and Jakarta have established relationships with the authorities and businesses in these countries, and our presence in the region is strengthened by our association with the leading Indonesian firm, Hiswara Bunjamin and Tandjung.

Herbert Smith has a leading practice in South and South East Asia, with twelve partners and over 45 lawyers who advise major corporates, investors and financial institutions on corporate and commercial transactions, capital markets, banking and finance, energy and dispute resolution issues across the region.

We operate from offices in BangkokSingapore and Jakarta, and work in close association with our Indonesian associated firm Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung and with our colleagues across the network. Our regional language abilities include fluent Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Thai, Japanese, Cantonese, Mandarin, French and English.

We have had a presence in the region for over 15 years and, in that time, have established a reputation for effective, innovative work for clients across the ASEAN region (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) and the Indian sub-continent. Our approach gives clients the comfort of international service levels combined with experience gained from working in these countries for many years and advice that is tailored to the demands of each particular market.
