Our Beijing office opened in 1999 and has forged strong relationships with central and regional government authorities, state-owned enterprises and regulators. We now have over 16 lawyers in Beijing (including three partners and one consultant) providing UK, US and Hong Kong law advice, with lawyers who are fluent in English, Mandarin and/or Cantonese.
The office advises Chinese-based international corporations, and state and privately-owned enterprises, as well as major non-Chinese multinational corporations, with a particular focus on the following practice areas:

The office's on-the-ground dispute resolution practice gives clients access to international disputes capability in China. The China arbitration team advises and represents clients under different arbitration systems and applicable national laws and in numerous jurisdictions in Asia and beyond, and has an acknowledged expertise in energy, construction, finance, trade and investment disputes.
Our corporate team advises on world-class capital markets transactions, such as the US$21.9 billion ICBC flotation (the largest ever IPO and the first simultaneous listing on the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges). We act for corporate clients in restructurings, M&A, joint ventures and share buy-backs, and general corporate matters and transactions.
The China investment group offers clients a full range of legal services for PRC-related investment, projects and commercial matters (and outbound investments), working closely with colleagues in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The team has extensive experience in advising foreign clients on investments in China, including obtaining approvals from the central authorities in sectors including telecommunications, financial services and energy.
The Beijing office also works closely with the Hong Kong energy team on some of the largest project financing deals and acquisitions/disposals involving mainland China corporates.
Lawyers in the office regularly work in teams with colleagues in Hong Kong and Shanghai, and with colleagues across the network, as transactional need dictates.
