Herbert Smith's Hong Kong office was established in 1982 and is the headquarters of the firm in Asia. The office now has 12 partners and some 60 other fee-earners who are qualified to practise in several different jurisdictions, including Hong Kong, the PRC, the US, England and Australia. This represents the firm's largest single presence outside of the UK and makes Herbert Smith one of the largest international law firms in Hong Kong.
The office acts as the firm's regional headquarters and co-ordinates and handles work throughout Asia. Its long-standing roots in Hong Kong's commercial and financial communities enable it to function locally as a full-service commercial law firm.
Herbert Smith has a US securities team based in Asia which provides support on US securities laws and liability issues. Our US corporate lawyers have extensive experience in advising on international capital markets transactions, including equity, investment grade and high-yield debt offerings, securitisations and mergers and acquisitions. Herbert Smith's experience in the privatisation of Chinese state-owned assets remains unsurpassed.
The office also handles some of the largest and most important disputes in the region, ranging from commercial claims and corporate disputes to regional project and infrastructure work.
