European Energy Review 2010

This special edition of European Energy Review 2010 focuses entirely on the Third Energy Package and the Climate Change Package, which were adopted by the European Parliament and Council in 2009.

The EU’s Climate Change Package contains an array of climate action and renewable energy measures. These are designed to move the EU into a global leadership position in relation to emissions reduction measures. The Package entered into force in April 2009.

Following this, in September the much-awaited and at times controversial Third Energy Package entered into force, containing a wide range of measures intended to improve the working of the internal electricity and gas market in the now expanded European Union.

In each national chapter, authors from Herbert Smith, our Alliance firms Stibbe and Gleiss Lutz, as well as from other international law firms, analyse the impact these two legislative packages will have on gas and power sectors in jurisdictions across Europe.

The jurisdictions covered in this edition are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
