Notes to Editors
Herbert Smith's US capital markets practice:
- Herbert Smith's US securities team is a critical part of the firm's integrated capital markets team and comprises partners Jim Wickenden, Alex Bafi and Adam Wells in London, Allen Hanen and Evgeny Zelensky in Moscow and John Moore and Kevin Roy in Hong Kong.
- In 2009 our capital markets practice was ranked third by Bloomberg among legal advisers for Europe, Middle-East and Africa equity and equity-linked offerings (for underwriters and issuers). We were also ranked third by Thomson Financial for 2009 EMEA ECM rankings with manager and issuer legal adviser combined, by both volume and value.
- The firm is advising the underwriters and financial advisers on UK and US law in connection with Prudential's $35.5 billion proposed acquisition of AIA, AIG's Asian operations, and related $21 billion rights issue.
- Steve Thierbach is the latest and most senior securities partner to join Herbert Smith's practice, as it has steadily grown over the last 12 years to its current leading position through internal growth and selective external recruitment. Our Moscow team has been bolstered by the addition of Evgeny Zelensky from Renaissance Capital's in-house legal team in September 2008, and our London capital markets team recruited debt specialist Peter Epp from White & Case early in 2008.
- Herbert Smith LLP is an international legal practice with over 1300 lawyers (including over 240 partners) and a network of offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. It has a formal alliance with leading German firm Gleiss Lutz and leading Dutch and Belgian firm Stibbe. On 1 April 2005 Herbert Smith became Herbert Smith LLP, a limited liability partnership. www.herbertsmith.com
