Alexander specialises in finance work and has been involved in many energy and infrastructure projects in a wide range of sectors, including oil, gas, LNG, mining, power, roads, water and airports; he advises lending banks, as well as project developers; particular expertise in advising infrastructure funds investing in projects and using project finance debt to fund acquisitions of project assets.

- Sakhalin Energy Investment Company in respect of its US$10 billion gas and LNG project on Sakhalin Island, Russia, including of the financing, construction and LNG shipping aspects
- Chase Manhattan Bank on the refinancing of Woodside Petroleum – Australia's leading LNG and oil producer
- Rand Merchant Bank, JBIC, EIB and AFD on the project financing of an electricity transmission project between South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique
- Citibank and EKF (Danish Export Credit Agency) on a project financing of a cement plant in Algeria
- Barclays Capital on a structured financing for Independent Pipelines Limited on a gas pipeline network
- EPIC Energy (Australia) Limited on its $2.4 billion acquisition and project financing of the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline
- Enron in respect of the aborted Metgas gas pipeline network development in India. The project involved shipping, regasification and distribution of natural gas
- Bank of Scotland and BNP Parties as arrangers of a US$385 million facility to Lundin Petroleum A.B including assets in Tunisia, Sudan and Venezuela
- Barclays Capital as arranger of a single asset project financing of an offshore Indian oil and gas field structured as a borrowing base loan
- Barclays Capital as mandated lead arranger of the project financing of the Huntstown Power Project. This was the first independent power project in Ireland
