Anna Bateman

Anna has wide experience of commercial dispute resolution including High Court litigation and mediation. She advises companies and high profile individuals across a range of industries on contractual and tortious disputes. 
 
In particular, Anna specialises in defamation, privacy and other reputation protection matters and in cases involving the media and entertainment industry. She has also acted on many injunctions.

Credentials

  • SMG/Virgin Radio on the claim brought by DJ Chris Evans following the termination of his breakfast show presenter contract;  SMG/Virgin Radio successfully defended the claim and won their counterclaim in respect of the damage caused to the radio station by Evans' conduct
  • a major rail operator and six individuals defending an injunction application in respect of mis-use of confidential information in the context of the recruitment of a team of employees from one company to another
  • High profile individuals in obtaining apologies from various tabloid newspapers
  • Chartbrook on a successful claim at trial and the Court of Appeal for payment under a land development agreement. The dispute related to the construction of the payment clause and also included a claim for rectification of the contract
  • West Ham United on both libel proceedings and an injunction application regarding the recruitment of a new manager
  • a planning practice in defending a claim for breach of restrictive covenants and conspiracy
  • Italian and French defendants on a high-profile defamation, privacy and trademark infringement claim brought by Sir Martin Sorrell and advertising giant WPP, including an injunction application
  • talkSPORT in successfully defending an attempt by the BBC to stop it broadcasting unofficial commentaries of Euro 2000 matches
  • a sports journalist in respect of an injunction application over his resignation to move from one tabloid to another
