John Farr

John is well-known for his representation of companies and senior individuals in contentious matters. His work covers High Court applications in connection with restrictive covenants, confidential information and group defections; corporate governance and boardroom disputes; bonus disputes; dismissals and redundancies; pension disputes; discrimination and harassment claims. He also deals with partnership disputes, directors' disqualification and has defamation experience.

Advisory and corporate work covers, inter alia, business transfers, reorganisations and collective redundancies, the devising and introduction of new terms of employment, and the implementation by clients of new UK and European employment and trade union legislation.  He has been involved in the employment aspects of various large transactions.

  • Dawnay Day procuring evidence of breaches of duties by departing employees, obtaining restitution of secret profits including securing a substantial share of the future profits of a competing venture and enforcing the terms of post-termination restrictive covenants 
  • Severn Trent on various employment implications arising from an alleged whistle blowing and subsequent internal and external investigations, including a successful mediation 
  • Farr plc upholding in the High Court and Court of Appeal, the enforceability of a twelve month non-complete clause and its effect after a transfer of the business
  • Providing advice to various companies on recruitment of employee teams including Citigroup and Cenkos
