Mark is a partner based in the London office and heads the firm's contentious construction practice. He has nearly 30 years of experience in construction law, and was previously head of the firm's construction and arbitration practices in Asia.
Mark has advised on the resolution of disputes arising from airports, roads, bridges, dams, tunnels, railway systems, power stations, container terminals, sea outfalls and dredging, water diversion and treatment schemes, piling and geotechnical matters, hotels, and residential and commercial development projects. His clients include a variety of public and private developers, international and domestic contractors and sub-contractors, consulting engineers, architects and quantity surveyors.
Internationally, Mark has advised on projects in the UK, USA, Nigeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, Libya, Hong Kong, the PRC, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Iraq.
Mark also advises in relation to the drafting and negotiation of contracts, forms of appointment, warranties and associated documentation for all types of building and civil engineering projects, and the structuring and drafting of joint venture agreements. He is a regular speaker at conferences on construction law.
Mark's contentious experience includes advising on:
- a European joint venture in relation to substantial claims arising out of the construction of a dam in the Middle East
- a major UK international engineering company in relation to claims arising out of a waste water treatment project in Saudi Arabia
- a major UK international civil engineering company in relation to claims arising out of a power project in the Middle East
- a major Hong Kong rail operator in a substantial dispute with the HK Airport Authority over the construction of infrastructure works
- three international joint ventures in relation to substantial claims arising out of the construction of the Hong Kong international airport, including both runways and the airfield tunnels
- a major international engineering group in relation to claims arising from the design and construction of the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and Ma Wan Viaduct
- the Hong Kong Government in a multi-faceted dispute with a major transport operator involving some six major contracts
- international contractors in connection with claims arising out of a major tunnelling project
- a substantial Asian independent power producer in connection with claims arising out of the engineering procurement and construction of a power station in Indonesia
- a PRC contractor in relation to a tunnelling contract between the PRC and Hong Kong
- a Hong Kong developer in relation to claims against the Hong Kong Government arising out of a redevelopment project
- an international supplier of turbines in relation to claims for defects and delayed completion of a power station in the Philippines
