Michael is head of the firm’s restructuring and insolvency practice in Asia.
He is a restructuring and insolvency specialist since much of the focus of his practice has been on advising bank groups in relation to multi-bank restructuring and workouts. This includes reviewing security, advising on structures, recovery actions and options for recovery, inter-creditor arrangements, standstill and restructuring agreements and in relation to regulatory issues.
- Ernst & Young as Hong Kong liquidators on the restructuring and re-listing of Dickson Group Holdings and Plus Holdings through creditor schemes of arrangement. Both companies were incorporated in Bermuda and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
- REACH, the undersea cable operator and joint venture between Hong Kong's Pacific Century Cyberworks and Australia's Telstra Corporation, on a US$1.2 billion debt restructuring
- Teleglobe on its US$125 million global restructuring through Canadian rehabilitation proceedings, Chapter 11 in the US and Administration in the UK
- Jinro and its Hong Kong subsidiaries in dealing with floating rate noteholders in the context of Jinro Group's restructuring in Korea and elsewhere
- Vicwood Group on the HK$3 billion debt restructuring
- the bank group led by HSBC in relation to the restructuring of Oriental Metals (Holdings), a PRC "window company", listed in Hong Kong
