Nicholas Downing

Nicholas is a specialist non-contentious construction lawyer. He has considerable experience of domestic and international projects, whether procured traditionally or on an a PFI/PPP or EPC/turnkey basis whether in the UK or internationally.

He advises on contracting arrangements across a member of sectors including commercial property development, infrastructure and energy.

He contributes to the Construction Law Handbook and lectures on construction matters.  He is listed for construction in Legal Experts 2003 and is recommended in Chambers 2004.

Credentials

    • construction aspects of numerous PFI/PPP projects including King’s College London, Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Greenwich, GCHQ (one of the largest PFI transactions to reach financial close) CAA, Health and Safety Laboratory, Portsmouth NHS Trusts, and Tyne Tunnel
    • Land Securities plc on various major construction projects including on their corporate PFI transaction with the BBC at White City and Broadcasting House and office and retail schemes
    • a multi-national manufacturer on construction projects for process plants in Africa, the Middle East and Asia
    • BG Tunisia on EPC Contracts in relation to a 500MW combined cycle gas power station in Tunisia
    • Viridian Power on an EPC Contract and other project documentation for a 400MW combined cycle gas power station in Ireland
    • Ballast Nedam Infra NV and NEG Micon Holland BV on drafting and negotiating an EPC Contract for a joint venture comprising a 100 MW offshore wind farm in the North Sea
    • the DTI on its PPP nuclear clean-up programme
    • various corporate occupiers on HQ relocations, including Cazenove, The London Stock Exchange, Marsh & McLennon and IPC Magazines.
