Paul Lewis

Paul is a partner in the insurance and reinsurance litigation group and has advised on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance disputes, including policy construction disputes and coverage litigation involving issues of non-disclosure and misrepresentation. He has particular experience in professional indemnity coverage disputes and defending insurance brokers.

Credentials

    • Friends Provident in a successful action against their professional indemnity insurers. The Court of Appeal decision is Sirius & Others v Friends Provident Life & Pensions Limited
    • a number of insured entities pursuing recoveries from their professional indemnity insurers in respect of their liability to the PIA Pension Mis-selling Review
    • Marsh & McLennan in relation to a number of their most significant claims in different jurisdictions including Australia, Norway, France and Canada
    • Royal & SunAlliance in relation to various claims from financial institutions arising out of film financing products in the late 1990s
    • a market of insurers in respect of large product liability claims in the US arising out of the spread of GM products
    • the largest firm of insurance brokers in Houston against a $60m claim arising out of a major oil spill in Bolivia
    • a firm of auditors in respect of a large claim brought by the Civil Aviation Authority following the collapse of a travel company
