Philip deals with a broad range of commercial litigation including fraud, insolvency related litigation, professional negligence (in particular, auditors’ negligence), shareholder and partnership disputes, financial services and regulatory work, contractual and warranty claims, large and complex commercial disputes, judicial review and defamation. Many of his cases have involved cross-border issues and proceedings in other jurisdictions. He has also advised extensively on risk management and strategic issues arising from multi-jurisdictional litigation and has wide experience of litigation in the telecommunications and healthcare sectors. He is head of one of the general commercial litigation groups.

- Cable & Wireless in proceedings before the Privy Council challenging the grant of an exclusive licence to Cable & Wireless for the provision of telecommunication services in, to and from the Commonwealth of Dominica
- Riggs Bank Europe Limited in relation to a fraud committed by one of its customers. The case involved obtaining freezing and disclosure orders
- Morgan Crucible in the case that followed the much publicised decision in Caparo limiting an auditor’s liability for negligence
- several large commercial fraud cases (involving proceedings in several jurisdictions) and in litigation involving sport (including the proceedings surrounding the formation of the FA Premier League)
